"Son,be a little more patient with your kind of school. Not all Montessori schools are real Montessori, and it's so sickening that a concerned parent has to define and explain Montessori approach for them. Haaayayay! It's so disappointing that lot of educators and educational institutions nowadays are just "bottom poor" in discretion,policy-making,approach and quality--pathetic! I will transfer you soon."
Friends, that's the message of a genuinely exasperated blogger mom on her Facebook wall today.
I never thought I would have to waste my time and blog, again, about this school. Along with many other issues which I kept in my heart, I would like to express this opinion.
POOR DISCRETION
This morning,my son was left by the official school transport service because he went down to our foyer, where the driver usually fetches him, about five minutes late. Fine.
Next,I called the manager of the school transport to have my child fetched on the second trip. He was fetched around 10:00 am already.
When the boy got in school, he was not admitted in a supposed Montessori classroom. Instead, he was made to stay in the guidance office and was not allowed to proceed to his class. To make the story short, the guidance counsellor called me and suggested that my son be sent home instead. The reason? To discipline the child.
Hello? Can you hear yourself? D-I-S-C-I-P-L-I-N-E, you said?! Are you sure you're sending the right message to the child? If I were him, I'd be very happy for the supposed privilege of not attending my class. If you wanted to be fair with everyone, you should have just allowed the child to attend the class and informed him that he would be marked absent.
LE-SIL MONTESSORI's POLICY IS SIMPLY "PALPAK"
My child is not a habitual late. To be sure he arrives in school on time, I chose to pay for his official school transport service. But look, the way Le-sil Montessori dealt with the tardiness of my child is tantamount to suspension.
Hey,why are the bullies in school given three or more warnings before being suspended? I should know, because my child was a victim of some of them before.
It is clear that Le-sil Montessori is sending the wrong message to the student. In Montessori approach, we educate the whole child and understand the child as an individual. This does not seem to be what they're doing.
What about the psychological implications? In a real Montessori school, for an instance similar to this, the school authorities will check on the angle of perseverance, diligence and initiative of the student. And yes, they may talk to the student and explain to him that being tardy is not a good practice because he will miss a lot of learning opportunities on time lost.
Well, since they claim to be a Montessori school, they should have looked at the situation in such a way that despite tardiness, the child endeavored to come to school.

i agree on this.and in 2009 principal Carmelita Sabino spanked 2 kids in the confort room but still that principal gained support from lesil inspite of that thing she have done.2010 a grade 6 student recieved a starbucks frap from a friend delivered it in her classroom and lesil montessori school made a big deal out of it and in the process making it hard on that student and her friend.masterminded by anita mendoza.the problem with lesil at that time the school principal Carmelita Sabino is not qualified to be a principal and second anita mendoza had the control over the principal and both are doing a hack job of running the school. now lesil is operated and supervised by the original founders and true owners of it. new principal new system.lesil is back the way it should be. i like to dedicate this blog to Ezekiel doromal and my dear friend kim ice cream this 2 kids.there are changes in lesil because of them that will benefit students.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carlo Mendoza, for the update! Glad to hear that Le-sil Montessori is better now. We are all after the welfare and protection of the students, I suppose. More power to the original management who are now operating Le-sil!
ReplyDeleteThis still stands true u til today, june 2015. My child was late for 30mins we had to take the child to a doctor first before going to school, 'lo and behold, my child was immediately sent to the guidance office. An emtpy guidance office, the child was told to sit there, and wait for a teacher to pick them up. Noone informed the teacher that a child was waiting inside, not even the guard. It took an hour after the my child's arrival date to be brought to his classroom. The principal was changed indeed, but their stupid policies are still the same. What can we expect from mr mendoza's comment? He is the owner's child for pete sake!
